The Silent Angels

Hello Everyone!

I promise that today will be shorter than last time, because the previous blog was probably a bit too long, but I must admit that it is because the topic really interests me. So today I am going to tell you about another film, in my opinion very touching, "Silent Angels: The Rett syndrome story”. Be warned there are spoilers

It is a documentary about parents caring for their children with Rett syndrome. The film tells about the process of research into Rett syndrome and the subsequent stages of understanding this disorder. Shockingly, parents often waited many years to learn the name of the disorder that their child suffers from. One of the mothers waited 18 years for this moment and says that just knowing the name of the disorder was a relief for her and her husband. The most important story is that of a mother who, having two daughters, only had one who suffered from Rett Syndrome, or so she thought. She says that the second daughter may have been a bit shy and had learning difficulties, but she developed normally and when she was an adult she fell in love and got married. However, when she gave birth to a baby girl, a few months later she called her mother and asked her a question that terrified her: “How did my sister behave when she was little, what were the symptoms of Rett syndrome?”. It soon turned out that her daughter also had Rett syndrome. When she became pregnant again, it turned out that she would give birth to a boy. Unfortunately, it turned out that her son also suffered from this disorder and, despite the great will to fight, died after a few weeks.

I don't want to describe too much again, but there's one thing I think worth mentioning. Parents who raise children with Rett syndrome report that although they often do not speak, they know when their children are happy and see how delighted these children are with the world. They also often discover activities that give them the greatest joy and soothe them, such as ice skating, horseback riding or listening to music.

I highly recommend this movie.
