Atypical

Obraz
Hello Everyone! Today I'll tell you again about a very interesting series that I just finished watching. The series is called "Atypical", its main character is a boy from the autism spectrum. The series can be watched on netflix, so far 3 seasons have been released. I highly recommend this series. He is an 18-year-old boy himself, a typical teenager, goes to school, has friends, has his first job, but his distinguishing feature is autism. Thanks to the series, we get to know his life and feelings, we learn how difficult it is for him to function in our society. Even though some consider him a weirdo, Sam is a great guy. The first season is very much focused on finding love. He himself wants a girlfriend and although he often does not know how to behave, he does not understand his feelings, he wants to have someone close to him. There are problems in his everyday life that we are often unaware of, too loud music or word-crowds can cause him anxiety. The series is ful...

Dyscalculia

Obraz
Hello Everyone! The last disorder I would like to tell you about is dyscalculia, which I think is the rarest of the disorders that start with "dys". Dyscalculia is a disorder of the ability to perform arithmetic operations. There are as many as 6 types of dyscalculia: ·        Conceptual and cognitive dyscalculia – disorder of abstract understanding necessary to perform memory calculations. ·        Operational dyscalculia - a disorder in the performance of mathematical operations with undisturbed ability to write / read numbers. ·        Verbal (verbal) dyscalculia - disorders of the ability to name concepts and mathematical relations ·        Lexical dyscalculia (reading) - a disorder of reading mathematical symbols. ·        Graphic dyscalculia (writing) difficulties in writing numbers and mathematical symbols. ·  ...

Dysorthography

Obraz
Hello Everyone! Today is the time for dysorthography. Dysorthography is a type of disorder that consists in spelling words incorrectly. It manifests itself in childhood, in the first years of learning and can be manifested through: ·       ·        confusing a word with pronunciation omitting certain letters, and sometimes even whole syllables, ·        confusing letters graphically (e.g. l-ł or in a mirror image b-d - I make this mistake very often, e.g. I write a pedadog) ·        problems with spelling words containing sz, rz, dz, cz ·        committing classic spelling mistakes It turns out that the cause of dysorthography is not ignorance of grammar rules, but a disturbance of visual or auditory perception. In learning to write, the functions of sight and hearing are important, as well as motor skills, vocabulary and correct articulation. ...

Dysgraphia

Obraz
Hello Everyone! Dysgraphy, or problems with writing, is one of the most common causes of problems in children at school, next to dyslexia and dysorthography. Dysgraphy is defined as a partial or complete loss of the ability to write correctly graphically, which often makes it completely illegible. It is important to remember that dysgraphic problems are not necessarily the result of a child's intellectual disability. Dysgraphia is primarily characterized by an illegible style of writing, which is associated with writing letters:   confusing letters, i.e. l-g, p-g, b-d, p-b;   with an uncertain, trembling line; outside the designated lines. imprecisely reproduced, irregular; too inclined from vertical; differing in size within one word; Other problems characteristic of dysgraphia are: holding the pen tightly, getting tired quickly while writing and reluctance to draw, we can quite boldly suspect dysgraphia. There are 3 types of dysgraphia: spatial, dyslexic and mo...

My dyslexia

Obraz
Hello Everyone! Recently, I was talking about dyslexia, and I got off the topic pretty quickly. Now I will tell you why I became interested in it and why this topic is particularly important to me, of course, as I mentioned earlier in the preparatory classes for future teachers, I had the topic of various disorders, including dyslexia, but this topic is important to me because I myself have dyslexia . This is quite funny as my whole family is dyslexic, my parents, my brothers and my sister. We are unique in this respect. I will tell you what my dyslexia looks like to me and how it manifests itself. First of all, I would like to start with the fact that it was only at the university that I heard the opinion that dyslexia is problematic, I always thought that it was just a minor problem requiring more time to study and that's it. Nowadays, there are even films showing the problem of dyslexia and showing the feelings of students who are dyslexic. In my case, dyslexia was diagnosed ...

Dyslexia

Obraz
Hello Everyone! I would like to stay on the topic of certain kinds of disorders and today I would like to focus on dyslexia. We talk about dyslexia when a child has difficulty learning to read and write, even though he or she is intellectually able to learn it, they simply cannot learn the rules associated with it. Children suffering from dyslexia do not distinguish between sounds and shapes, nor do they see the difference in the numbers and letters written, and consequently make many spelling mistakes in one sentence. The dyslexic handwriting is considered ugly and slurred. Often, such children are wrongly considered lazy and rated poorly, receiving lower grades than the rest of the children. It is worth mentioning, however, that dysfunction does not mean that the child is less intelligent or is developing poorly. Symptoms of dyslexia appear in children from early childhood. You can recognize it, for example, by the fact that the child started to walk immediately, skipping the cra...

The Silent Angels

Obraz
Hello Everyone! I promise that today will be shorter than last time, because the previous blog was probably a bit too long, but I must admit that it is because the topic really interests me. So today I am going to tell you about another film, in my opinion very touching, "Silent Angels: The Rett syndrome story”. Be warned there are spoilers It is a documentary about parents caring for their children with Rett syndrome. The film tells about the process of research into Rett syndrome and the subsequent stages of understanding this disorder. Shockingly, parents often waited many years to learn the name of the disorder that their child suffers from. One of the mothers waited 18 years for this moment and says that just knowing the name of the disorder was a relief for her and her husband. The most important story is that of a mother who, having two daughters, only had one who suffered from Rett Syndrome, or so she thought. She says that the second daughter may have been a bit shy and...
