Hel

Hello Everyone!

I would like to tell you a lot more about the Norse gods, but I can't exaggerate. That's why today I will tell you about my favorite character from Norse mythology, about Hel.

Hel - the ruler of the land of the dead with natural death - Helheim (sometimes identified with hell), the personification of death, the daughter of a god named Loki.

According to myths, Hel was only partially decomposed - she kept the face and body of a living woman, while her legs were a skeleton. Hel is also sometimes portrayed as a person whose half body was of human color, the other frightened with a corpse with a rotten-blue color.

Hel's seat is Niflheim, from where he rules the souls of the dead. Hel is also the original name of hell in Norse mythology. From her name comes the name of hell in Germanic languages, among others: English (Hell) and German (Hölle).

The Scandinavian goddess Hel is different from other rulers of the underworld. There is no hellfire, passion and suffering in her domain. Such notions of hell are characteristic of the Middle East. Here the terrible punishment was hot. In northern countries, death was associated with cold. Life and death alternate, like winter and summer. Hel is endowed with uncompromising character. He knows what leads to happiness and what leads to sadness. It shows the inevitability of death for people. Therefore, her image consists of the appearance of a beautiful girl on one side and a skeleton - on the other.

  Bye Bye!
